The Allegheny Valley School District continues to emphasize the importance of academics in its classrooms, procedures, and activities. Staff and students alike understand that although education incorporates many areas, academics must play a key role. To that end, Springdale Jr-Sr High School offers several opportunities to recognize students for high academic achievement.

Honors Banquet
Began in 1984 to award high achievement, an Honors Banquet was developed by the high school guidance department and administration. The District hosts this event each May in conjunction with the Allegheny Valley Education Association (AVEA) and the Springdale Jr-Sr High School Student Council. The event brings together staff, students, and their parents to celebrate high academic achievements of the school year. To qualify for the banquet, a student must average 94% or higher for the first three quarters of the school year.
National Honor Society
The National Honor Society is the leader among organizations and societies that promote appropriate recognition for students who reflect outstanding accomplishments in each of the areas of scholarship, character, leadership, and service.
Membership in the National Honor Society shall be based upon scholarship, service, leadership, and character as recommended by the National Honor Society organization. Invitation to the Society is based on cumulative grade point averages beginning in grade 9. Candidates eligible for membership must have earned a 90% or higher in their ninth-grade year through the first two semesters of their current grade level to be considered.
A faculty committee consisting of five members appointed by the principal will evaluate student credentials and make the final selections for those inducted into the National Honor Society.
