Transportation services are provided by the Allegheny Valley School District to carry students to and from school. These buses and vans are contracted through W.L. Roenigk, Inc. and are housed in Cheswick. Students may ride a variety of sizes of vehicles determined by the number of students along their bus route.

Bus drivers are responsible for the discipline and safety of the children while they ride the buses and vans. Transportation privileges may be taken away for misconduct. To insure the safety of the students while in route, bus drivers must pass a driver’s examination given by the Pennsylvania State Police. They must also pass an annual physical examination, random drug tests, and hold current criminal and child abuse clearances.

All children assigned to buses are expected to ride them to and from school. Non-bus students are not permitted to ride the buses. Students are assigned to specific buses. They are not to ride buses to which they are not assigned. In addition, parental requests for daily bus changes will not be honored. In emergency situations, any bus student who must ride a bus to which he/she is not assigned, must have a signed pass from the main office granting permission for the student to be on that bus for that day.

Bus Safety Regulations

Students must observe all safety regulations while boarding, riding, and disembarking from the school buses. Students who ride the buses must cooperate in every way with the bus drivers who are in charge of the bus. Rowdiness and behavior inconsistent with safe transportation procedures will result in the loss of bus privileges. A bus misconduct report will be sent to the office for review by the principal. Parents are responsible for any student damages to school buses. Disciplinary action will be taken for any conduct which tends to distract the attention of the driver, in any way interferes with the safe operation of the bus, or threatens the safety of any of the passengers on the bus. Students who do not observe the rules of safety will lose their privilege of riding the buses and will have to provide their own transportation.

Parents have a responsibility to impress upon their child or children the importance of following all bus rules, including respect for the drivers and bus-related personnel. Please note that many of the buses have cameras for documenting student behavior.

Personal Safety When Utilizing Bus Services
In order to ensure personal safety for all bus riders, students are asked to follow these additional rules:
• Stay off the traveled roadway at all times while waiting for a bus.
• Wait until the bus has come to a complete stop before attempting to get on or off.
• Transferring from one bus to another is not permitted without the approval of the principal.
• Leave the bus only with the consent of the driver.
• Enter or leave the bus only by the front door, except in the case of an emergency.

Bus Routes and Times
Bus Schedules for the 2023-2024 school year were released in August on the Parent Portal.  Parents and students should note any changes to the bus schedule.  Some bus stops have been moved and pickup times changed.  Please check the schedules carefully to find the correct bus and time for your child’s stop according to his/her building.

If necessary, further changes to routes may be made after the start of the school year. However, the District does not anticipate any additional changes at this time. Please note that TIMES ARE APPROXIMATE and students should arrive at their bus stop at least ten minutes prior to the time listed.  Times are subject to change over the course of the school year due to the number of students at stops, traffic patterns, weather conditions, and/or other situations.  Parents should remain flexible during these situations.

Parents with questions should contact Ms. Mandi Noel at 724-274-8100.

Activity Bus Schedule
The District’s Activity Bus runs Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from Springdale Jr-Sr High School and Acmetonia Elementary School.  Parents having questions concerning the Activity Bus should contact their child's building office.
