On Jan. 17, 12 AVSD students faced rigorous academic competition as part of the Allegheny Intermediate Unit’s regional International Academic Competition. The students answered questions about science, history, and geography in an academic quiz format against challengers from Moon, Fox Chapel, Canon-McMillian, South Fayette, Pine Richland, and North Allegheny school districts, to name a few. AVSD students also completed a 50-question exam within 20 minutes.
Tyler Harpine won a third pace medal. Rosalee Flowers, Bentlie Minor, Rowan Pivik and Desmond Jameson took second place medals and Talon Mator and Jordan Howard won first place awards. Rosalee Flowers, Bentlie Minor, Max Santucci, Caden Burks, Talon Mator, Jordan Howard, Maxim SarnoPierce, Frances Reefer and Tyler Harpine all qualified for the national exam.
